History

Summit Farms prides itself on modern, advanced farming practices and excellent land stewardship. Bruce Rastetter and Summit Farms have supported a variety of community and philanthropic efforts through the years – be it local schools, local environmental efforts, community colleges, or Bruce’s alma mater, the University of Iowa.

Summit Farms also partnered in the past with Heartland Pork Enterprises, where Mr. Rastetter served as CEO, to develop a 200-acre tract of land as a wetland in conjunction with NRCS. This project was initiated by Summit Farms, Heartland Pork and the landowners of the farm at that time. Summit and Heartland led the efforts as sponsors of the project and the NRCS and local conservation groups also participated in the project – which had a positive community and environmental impact.

Summit Farms has maintained this strong environmental focus through the years. In total, Summit Farms has constructed over ten farm ponds on its property throughout the State of Iowa. Additionally, Summit Farms has built in excess of 25 miles of filter strips on its land.

Mr. Rastetter has also formed a specific non-profit foundation called The Rastetter Foundation to support his philanthropic efforts. The Rastetter Foundation is currently in the process of working on a variety of gifts that support diverse educational, community, and collegiate programs.
